London-born songstress GIRLI has today released her brand new single, Ricochet. Opening with GIRLI’s sultry and richly-hued vocals, the track culminates in an earworm-led chorus. Milly Toomey (aka GIRLI) explains, “Ricochet is about being in a bad relationship but loving the thrill of the drama; knowing that you deserve better but also liking the feeling of emotional cat and mouse with someone.” Listen here.
GIRLI has also revealed a visualiser to coincide with the release and has said, “The Ricochet visualiser sums up the vibe of the song to me; playful, enjoying the destruction of something that’s meant to be pretty and cute and lovely. I’m surrounded by all these representations of romance and I’m maniacally f**king it all up. The song is about having a destructive addictive fling that’s making you jealous and obsessive and instead of leaving it for something healthier, you’re relishing the drama. GIRLI has recently announced the incredibly exciting news that she is heading out on a UK/IRE tour in November and December! The songstress will kick the headline dates off in Bristol at The Lanes on 7th November, and hit towns and cities such as Cardiff, Brighton, London, Manchester and more, before wrapping things up at the Arts Club Loft in Liverpool on 3rd December. GIRLI made her long-awaited return to the stage last month, at a sold out socially distanced show at London’s Bush Hall, to celebrate 20 years of the venue. The alt/pop artist has also played shows in Liverpool, London and Bournemouth in the last couple of weeks.
Before the headline tour, GIRLI will play a DJ set at venue pssy culture in Sheffield tonight, and Brighton Pride at Ironworks on 25thAugust. GIRLI is also set to join Architects, Machine Gun Kelly and lots more at London’s first alternative hip hop and rock festival, ALT + LDN at Clapham Common on 30th August. GIRLI has been cutting her teeth on the live circuit over the last few years, and has played shows with the likes of Ashnikko and Declan McKenna, and festivals such as Latitude, All Points East and Truck.
Earlier this year saw GIRLI release her Ex TalkEP, which has racked up a whopping 1.3+ million combined audio streams, and 300k+ combined video streams. Treating her avid fans to a very special and unique experience, GIRLI gave them the opportunity to submit fanart and feature in her digital exhibition which ran online in May. The pop powerhouse also shared an exclusive live show which was filmed from an empty London venue, where she performed Ex Talk in full. This 5-track body of work is the follow up to GIRLI’s highly regarded debut, Odd One Out. The 9-track album which was released in 2019, garnered support from tastemakers such as the Guardian, Clash, DIY and more.
GIRLI’s passions go further than music; she speaks avidly and openly about topics such as feminism, sexuality and mental health.
