Earlier this month saw the return of the UK Music Video Awards as it begins accepting submissions for its 2021 programme. On offer is the UKMVAs largest ever range of categories, spanning directorial skill by music genre, technical and craft achievement, film production, and excellence across a body of work in a range of industry skillsets from commissioning to post-production.
From today, entrants can submit their work via the official website at www.ukmva.com
The UK Music Video Awards 2021 is now open and accepting entries in 38 separate categories, including genre-led awards, as well as specific technical and craft awards, and awards for individual and companies for their body of work over the past year. Submissions should be made via the dedicated website at www.ukmva.com until the entry deadline at midnight, August 3rd 2021 (BST).
The UK Music Video Awards editorial director, David Knight, adds: “With the unprecedented challenges of the past year, music video makers have displayed greater resourcefulness and ingenuity than ever to create amazing work. We’re looking forward to seeing all manifestations of that creativity and craft in the entries for UKMVAs21. And of course looking forward to gathering for a proper celebration of this year’s best work at the awards ceremony and party in a few months’ time.”
Event director, Louise Stevens, says “We’re excited to open the UK Music Video Awards for another year and look forward to exploring a fresh collection of incredible music video creativity. It’s a great chance to re-connect with the music video community, with our industry partners and our network of international festivals and awards programmes, to re-discover the work from the past year that inspired and delighted us, and to meet a whole new cohort of fresh filmmaking talent.”
She continues: “We all missed the chance to celebrate our big night in person last year, but we’re looking forward to doing what we do best and bringing the music filmmaking community together at the Roundhouse to celebrate their achievements in November.”
Since its inception in 2008, the UKMVAs has grown into the leading global awards programme for music video creativity, the most important annual event in the calendar for the world of music video production. The UKMVAs’ investment in curating a broad and diverse Jury from within the music video community in the UK and around the world means that filmmakers have an unrivalled opportunity to have their work seen by industry experts and potential future collaborators. And the UKMVAs boasts a growing network of international partner festivals whose work and talent it helps to support.
The Individual and Company categories were also expanded last year. Alongside individual awards for New Director, Director, Producer and Commissioner, the Best Agent category recognises the professionals who work with directors, cinematographers and other specialists whose craft is essential to the success of music video-making. The Best Post-Production Company award was introduced to sit alongside the highly-coveted Best Production Company category and recognises a company for a body of work in any post discipline over the past 12 months.
Directorial achievements in music video are recognised in 18 categories defined by music genre, expanded last year to provide a platform for a greater number and diversity of directors and artists. The 6 separate genres are Pop, R&B/Soul, Dance/Electronic, Rock, Alternative and Hip Hop/Rap/Grime. Within each of these genres, awards are divided between UK artists, international artists and for newcomer directors working with budgets under £8k. Additionally, there are awards for Best New Director and Best Director for a body of work over the past year.
This year’s Awards sees the expansion of the Technical Achievement categories, with a brand new award for Best Performance in a Video, recognising an artist or actor for the interpretation of a role in a single music video. The Styling award has also been expanded into two separate categories: one for Wardrobe Styling and one for Hair and Make-Up. All of these categories are open to artists, creatives and technicians from across the globe.
