Following its premiere on Tuesday night and feature as Annie Mac’s coveted Hottest Record In The World, YONAKA have released their brand new single Raise Your Glass. The self-produced track is complemented by the anthemic chorus, showcasing lead vocalist Theresa Jarvis’s soaring vocals. Raise Your Glass is sure to become a fast fan favourite, and the rapturous lyrics will no doubt be heard roaring through festival fields and venues alike. Listen here.
YONAKA have also just announced the highly-anticipated news that they will be releasing their Seize The Power mixtape, on 15th July! This incredibly honest body of work explores themes such empowerment, hopefulness and acceptance. Spanning 8 tracks produced entirely by the band, it includes previous singles Raise Your Glass, Call Me A Saint, Ordinary, title track Seize The Power plus special collaborations with Jason Butler of FEVER 333, and Barns Courtney. Pre-order for the vinyl via Blood Records, which has been given a special blue and white ‘corona’ pressing, sold out in just 90 minutes yesterday! The Seize The Power mixtape is available to pre-order digitally now, here.
Theresa has said of the mixtape, “Seize The Power is a collection of songs to empower you. We all possess the power within but through life we are always put down by others, told to be quiet and not express ourselves; this makes us less confident and we lose ourselves. I wanted to take back control and yes, I’m not in control all the time but when I’m there I’m untouchable. This is a wake up call. Anyone can be anything they put their mind to. Be who you want! Everything up until now has lead to this moment so take the moment and make it yours and enjoy it.”
Previous singles Call Me A Saint, Ordinary and Seize The Power have garnered a whopping 7 million+ overall audio streams, and the Seize The Power video alone has half a million views on YouTube. All three empowering tracks have received tremendous radio support, including on BBC Radio 1, the Rock Show (where the band were Getting To Know You guests last month), the Indie Show and more.
YONAKA will be taking to the stage at the highly-anticipated sold out Download Pilot event, this Saturday. They will join the likes of While She Sleeps and Enter Shikari. The Brighton-based rockers will also be returning to play the mighty Reading & Leeds Festival, this August. YONAKA are also set to play 110 Above Festival the same month, Sonic Wave in December and are joining Catfish And The Bottlemen at Singleton Park in Swansea, in September. YONAKA have cut their teeth on the live scene over the last couple of years, supporting the likes of international heavyweights Bring Me The Horizon, FEVER 333 and playing festivals such Bestival, Download and Isle Of Wight. The band have recently played live streamed shows on both Scruff Of The Neck’s Twitch, and also for Amazon Music.
2019 saw YONAKA release their highly esteemed debut album, Don’t Wait ‘Til Tomorrow. Met with critical acclaim from tastemakers such as the Guardian, NME, Clash and more, the 11-track album has racked up a whopping 60 million streams on Spotify. Since its release, the band have been holed up in their Brighton home studio honing their craft, and finally creating the music they have always want to. When they met at Brighton university, vocalist Theresa Jarvis, bassist Alex Crosby, drummer Rob Mason and guitarist George Werbrouck-Edwards instantly jelled, quickly building their name with raucous live sets and a seamless merging of pop, rock and hip-hop inspired beats.
