| The Fratellis have today released a new studio single version of their cover of ‘Yes Sir, I Can Boogie’ on Cooking Vinyl. The band originally performed Baccara’s1977 disco classic live on Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio, a performance which has become a viral hit with over 300,000 views on YouTube. The Fratellis will donate 100% of their income from ‘Yes Sir, I Can Boogie’ to three children’s charities: The Tartan Army Children’s Charity, SoccerAid, and The Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund. The single is included in a charity version of The Fratellis new album ‘Half Drunk Under A Full Moon’ available now for only £4.99, with all profits going to the same three charities. The song has particular meaning for football fans in Scotland after footage emerged of the national squad singing it in changing room following the dramatic shoot-out victory over Serbia which saw Scotland qualify for Euro 2020. “It was a lot of fun to take a song that no one would have ever associated with The Fratellis then shape into something that made perfect sense to us,” comments Jon Fratelli. “The response to the live version on the Chris Evans Breakfast show has been amazing. Although we knew we’d made something we were all really proud of, it was still a shock to find out so many people agreed!” The Fratellis version has been endorsed by Mary Dostal, widow of ‘Yes Sir, I Can Boogie’ lyricist Frank Dostal, who says; “Of course I always knew this is a great song – and every time we get a request for permission to make a new version I have to ask myself if Frank (my husband) would like it! This time I know for sure he would. The Fratellis have shown what potential this song has! A great version and myself my children and grandchildren just love it – well done!” “The Fratellis have created an excellent reimagining of ‘Yes Sir, I Can Boogie’, which will be enjoyed by generations to come,” adds Marie-Luise Soja, widow of Rolf Soja, co-writer of the song. The Fratellis recently released a remix of their Radio 2 playlisted hit single ‘Need a Little Love’ by Mercury Prize winning electronic act Rudimental. Along with other musicians including Paul Weller, Sleaford Mods, Amy MacDonald, Frank Turner, Tom Grennan and James, The Fratellis recently featured in the Sky Arts series The Live Revival, which shines a light on hard-hit small music venues, with the artists giving one-off performances in the venues they gigged in at the start of their careers. The original version of ‘Need A Little Love’ appears on multi-platinum Glasgow band’s acclaimed new album ‘Half Drunk Under A Full Moon’, a Radio 2 Album Of The Week. The Fratellis have performed the track on The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Kelly Clarkson Show, and also on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio. Having been unable to perform live for well over a year, The Fratellis are making up for lost time with two UK tours in the pipeline. In September, they will take in smaller regional venues, with all profits from the tour going to independent record stores and The Fratellis’ road crew. The band will follow this with a major UK tour in Spring 2022, including two hometown shows at Glasgow Barrowland Ballroom and a London gig at O2 Forum Kentish Town. |
