Introducing: Dude Safari

Dude Safari recently released their second single ‘Lead Balloon’ which follows last months debut release of track ‘Bug Hunter’, which went down well with press and included features on ‘BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, Total Rock & Gig-radar.

Hailing from Surrey in South East England, Dude Safari might have arrived just in time. After drunkenly coming up with the band name at a festival in 2013, lead singer and guitarist Jamie Tipson mentioned it to long time friend and rhythm guitarist Ben Burroughes and the idea was conceived. After sitting on the name and idea for almost 7 years and being in several different musical projects, Jamie and Ben finally decided after a miserable 2020 that the time was right to pull the trigger. Pulling in long time band member, friend and all round bass monster Fred Higley was the final piece of the jigsaw and the Safari was born. Dude Safari is a blend of everything this trio love; powerful grunge pop with catchy melodies and a sense of humour. Their journey begins early 2021.

Recorded from lockdown in each members abodes, they joined forces with musical extraordinaire Forbes Coleman who lent his talents playing and recording the drums at his studio ‘Audiobeach’ in Brighton. They then enlisted the man, Jake Day to produce, mix and master the track at his ‘North Acre Studios’ in Cambridgeshire.

The result is a powerhouse two minute thirty grunge punch that takes inspiration from bands like ‘Weezer’, ‘Dinosaur Pile Up’ and ‘Reuben’.

Jamie Tipson (Guitar/Vocals) on the story behind ‘Lead Balloon’

“ I’ve always had the idea of writing music that was catchy and easy listening but had a real personal skeleton underneath if you fancied digging it up. ‘Lead Balloon’ is the part 2 to ‘Bug Hunter’, it follows depression and that general dark cloud that appears sometimes. But in the form of a cockroach called Lead Balloon, he wants to ballroom dance you into an ‘episode’ and the only way of escaping his clammy insect hands is to go to sleep”
