Interview: Tony Benn

So how has your latest album/EP gone so far with fans then?

It’s gone well I think/hope, I’ve got a lot of positive feedback at shows.

Tell us something about the release no one knows?

Good question, I would say no one knows that I started writing it about 12 years ago.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

I would love to work with Laura Marling, I think our writing styles are really similar and I love how she plays the guitar.

Also Jack White because every thing he touches turns to gold. How has your latest release been received?

I’m quite happy with it, so far my last single “If we make it through the winter” got some nice airplay and people seem to like it, so a medium success, I think.

Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

When I wrote this song I was sitting in my kitchen, my girlfriend at the time had just been deported, my rent was due and times were tough so I sat down and wrote this about being hopeful and trying to stay strong through the rough times.

What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

Unfortunately I have no concrete touring plans at the moment because of the ever present pandemic, but when the smoke clears I would love to tour the UK.

What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?

There is a great place called Kenny’s (Lahinch Co. Clare Ireland) I love it there, the crowd is great, the food is great and I always have a good time playing there.

What else can we expect from in 2020?

I have a few more singles in the works for 2021 and I If I can’t get touring in reality I’ll tour virtually.
