CINEMATIC ROCK SAGA It’s A Musical Franchise that stands up with the great cinematic ones. It’s the unique alt pop rock sound that stands alone far from the usual lick that is out there, hailing from just West of Down Under…. Date Month Year~ ‘Commission1’
DateMonthYear, the eclectic and forward-thinking music experience from Hamilton, New Zealand, is proud to announce the release of the third stage in an ongoing series of work, called “The Exodus Suite”
‘The Exodus Suite’ is a collection of five Soundscapes/ Ambient music pieces with attendant video interpretations. The music has been written and produced by DateMonthYear founder and mainstay Trevor Faville, mixed in America by Martin Porter, and mastered back in Hamilton, New Zealand by Andi Verse. Faville explains” the Exodus Suite is proving to a very rewarding creative experience not only in making Soundscape/Ambient/ Electronic music but in the process of allowing directors’ creative freedom to interpret as they wish”
The Third installment is called ‘Commission1’ and is directed by Elysia Koretz. It is a video-only release and is live on the DateMonthYear YouTube channel right now. At this link.
‘Commission1’ is directed by longtime DateMonthYear associate Elysia Kortez, who directed the video for our previous work ‘River’. She explains “The fast pace of this track inspired me to match this with visual urgency. I used this influence in hand with a very freestyle approach – going with what came to me as I captured the narrative.”

- What made you want to become a musician? I was inspired by the music that I heard as a child, the so-called ‘classic’ rock of the 60s/70s, and the great movie scores of the same time ‘2001: a space Odyssey” in particular.
- Which instruments did you play in high school. Percussion mostly-with a little bit of guitar
- What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next five to 10 years? Making sure that the extensive backlog of songs is released, and getting music place in TV and Movies, doing a movie score.
- Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music? Oh goodness! History, English Literature, Model railways, writing, fitness, public speaking.
- What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician? Experience and a really broad listening and performing background. These elements transcend “technique for technique’s sake.
- Do you have any weaknesses that you’re actively working to improve on? many! currently working on my singing, and brushing up on writing/arranging for orchestral ensembles(its been a while)
- Which instrument is your favourite to play and why? Drums and percussion. I can sit, play, and lose myself for hours
- What is it about music that makes you feel passionate? all of it. I listen and watch music constantly, and music plays in my head all of the time. There no escape!
- Describe your favourite and least favourite part about being a musician. The best part is writing/ arranging and performing something new or challenging. The least favourite times are 2 am pack downs and playing the same thing the same way again and again
- Which instrument is your least favourite to play and how do you make sure you play it well? vocals- mainly because I struggle with the sound of my own voice ( I hate it). My coping mechanism is to sing constantly and write vocal lines that are developed through singing and transcribed- rather than working lines out on ‘paper’- like a violin or oboe part. Iknow I will get sued my voice one day..
