With their new song out we decided to have a chat with Gary Mills of the band. The new song BROKEN MELODY takes you back to the melody of The WINGS infused with WHAM’S “careless whisper” a NU School melodic roots in REEL Skool style. REEL Skool refers to the real music found on tape to tape reels unlike the computer generated music of today. The strums of the guitars, beat of the drums and tickling the piano along with smooth style vocals gives a new invigour to Soft Pop Rock!
From the band…..Vix don’t really do ballads but if they did….Best described as a slightly sinister journey that twists and turns through joy, grief and revenge. Highlighting Vix’s diverse songwriting, Broken Melody started life as a 10 min throw down by Mills and Kill, CJ immediately raised the song to the next level. Vix don’t really do guitar solos but if they did …it would be on the full version.
Look for the new song on all streaming services and check out the lyric music video on youtube and coming to VEVO

What made you want to become a musician?
it was like there was nothing else that really made sense to me. Love at first sight. I was never the most natural player but loved it so much it made me the determined.
Which instruments did you play in high school?
only ever the guitar but I started too late I was in my final year before I started to get any good.
What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next five to 10 years?
to keep playing and keep writing with CJ and Kill is all I really want to do….and make a few more videos along the way!
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
im a real outdoors guy. I love to fish, to run, bike but I’m most happy in my Wellington Boots where the mud can’t get me!!!!
What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?
I never really give up and I will work hard at something (obsessively) until I get it right.
Do you have any weaknesses that you’re actively working to improve on?
im trying to improve my singing.I never set out to be a front man or a singer of any kind but when we failed to get the singer we wanted. We kept our songs how we vocalled the demos with CJ and I singing the parts.
Which instrument is your favourite to play and why?
It really depends on the time of the week and what I’m doing I love recording bass. I have a gorgeous Warwick Bass guitar that I love playing…but the next day it will be all about the Telecaster.
What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?
The writing process. Starting with a little acorn and your buddy saying I like this then adding a part a year later it’s on the radio…wonderful!
Describe your favourite and least favourite part about being a musician.
favourite is writing and traveling and my least favorite is packing up after rehearsals and trying to get on playlists!
Which instrument is your least favourite to play and how do you make sure you play it well?
My least favourite is probably keyboard so the best way I’ve found is to import midi from someone else and change the notes with the mouse…really take the edge off!
