Silver Linings Part 3
The plot thickens my friends, where are Silverstein? Where are they broadcasting from? How will this quandary end? Will any of us get out alive? With so many questions buzzing through our collective minds, we are pulled towards the final piece of this jigsaw, an acoustic, stripped back set, quite possibly designed to alleviate our anxieties. Once again it is a delightful pick ‘n mix from a career spanning twenty years, with the exception of premiering a new song ‘Where Are You?’ which cleverly highlights our predicament. A stunningly crafted show, classically tinged throughout with cello and violin elements, which augment what the band has to offer. The song-writing aptitude is not in question here, they are sublime stand-alone numbers, but put together with the alien back story they weave a tale that has been told before. Paranormal phenomena are nothing new, vanishings, missing persons are in our history, and the question is how do we make sense of it all? We see two detectives hot on their trail, but will they succeed? Meanwhile tuck into this feast my friends, if you’re ‘Still Dreaming’ of ‘One Last Dance’ and the prospect of a ‘True Romance’ then you must learn ‘To Live and to Lose’ and be mindful of the ‘Arrivals’ and Departures’.
A tale of two cities with ‘California’ and ‘Toronto’ where I feel a stranger in my own home, maybe it is the ideal time to move on and find where you belong. With our lives currently in work, eat, sleep, repeat mode Silverstein have crushed that notion into oblivion by not repeating a single tune in the entire 3 show series. It is a feat that is truly inspiring and admirable, but wait, where are they? Take a bow my friends for completing these shows under perplexing circumstances.
The focus is back on the detectives, they find the area where the band may have been, it is notorious for vanishings, unexplained events and therefore conclude that perhaps the band have been taken to a parallel dimension, sequestered for exclusive use by our other -worldly friends, could it be that another civilisation is in great difficulty and the music provided by these gents is the treatment? Whatever the scenario, we are left with this idea that the paranormal is a real possibility, a real answer to many unsolved cases.
Earnestly hoping that I discover the portal into this other realm, (twilight zone anyone?) I bid you farewell and hope to catch up with our friends very soon, I may even send you a postcard.
