Interview: Bobby MC

So how has your latest album/EP gone so far with fans then?

Yeah it has gone quite well. I’m still working on my fan base and audience so there’s still work to do there. The thing that has made me most happy in relation to the single is that people really like the version of the song and a lot of people have commented on my vocal which was the aim before we released.

Tell us something about the release no one knows?

As a result of Covid, I never got the chance to go to London and meet Ville and Mat. So my vocals were recorded in my brother’s studio upstairs in my house. This meant that Mat and I worked on the production of the track over email and phone. The other thing is that the 4 people involved in the track, Ville on Guitar, Podge on Piano, Mat the producer and myself the singer were never in the same room together.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

I’d love to work with Jamie Cullum and his band. I love the way he interprets songs and creates modern sounds around classics. I think he would have a few ideas for arrangements that I’d love. It would also be a pleasure to duet with him.

How has your latest release been received?

It has been received very well. I’m still working on getting it out to as many people as possible. The reactions have been exactly what I was looking for though. People have commented on the smooth clear vocal and original arrangement which I was delighted about.

Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

Well obviously it’s not my song, the song was written almost 90 years ago so I’d say it had a different meaning back then. To me, the song is all about, there’s not only one way to do something. You’ve got to patient and try and get to where you want to be but you should never give up.

What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

I have none currently as a result of Covid but I’m hoping to do some big shows in Ireland at the end of 2021 and possibly some European dates in 2022.

What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?

Ronnie Scott’s in London is a venue that I would love to play in. It’s a place where so many of the greats of Jazz have performed. In the heart of London where there is a great jazz scene at the moment, it’s very iconic.

What else can we expect from in 2021?

I’ll be putting out three more singles this year. The next one is recorded and is being mixed and mastered at the moment as we speak.
