With the bitter cold and lockdown, many of us are stuck inside at the moment leaving it hard to picture life after this winter lockdown, this is where Cassia come in.
Doing what they can to spread summertime joy, this northern trio have recently released their ‘Powerlines’ EP and it is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Blowing away those winter blues, this EP relishes in sunset chill vibes, soaking up the warmth and radiating it back through our speakers.
With progressive beats and candied bliss, ‘Powerlines’ rolls in gentle waves, providing the perfect soundtrack to lie back to and float away from reality too – at least for a little while.
Title track ‘Powerlines’ jumpstarts the EP with a calming cloud of lo-fi allure. With groovy underlying bass tones from Lou Cotterill and a seamless blend of vocals, it isn’t difficult to see why so many of us are falling for their kicked back northern charm.
With over three million Spotify streams, Cassia are a candied force to be reckoned with, lulling us into joining their amass of fans.
‘Do right kicks’ up a slightly jazzier element, enhanced by acoustic slides and coloured by Rob Ellis’ infectious vocals.
‘Drifting’ similarly brings these sugary sonic waves to bay, paced and encouraged by Jacob Lee on the drums, picking at the current and heating the waters for us to dive into without a second thought.
‘Don’t make a scene’ fizzes as a delicate feel good emblem that resonates through the album. It’s the perfect driving song to calm your head, perk up your mood and start afresh.
That is one thing to be certain about with this EP, it’s simultaneously refreshing and comforting, like a hot cup of tea or a cold shower on a hot day. Each track ebbs and flows seamlessly through the EP, painting a canvas with cohesive lyricism and subtle progressive beats.
Even, BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Greg James have shown support for the band that certainly has the potential to brighten all our days in just three minutes.
