Scuzzy, early Foo Fighters rock with psychedelic indie, bring it on!
Meet North Carolina based, By George, a four-piece alternative rock band set to make more than a few waves with their upcoming single ‘Relax’, to be released on the 26th February as part of their concept album ‘The Life Of Guy’.
In regard to the Foo-Fighters, think ‘Learn to Fly’ vibes with an added collective twist. It is an addictive number with a paradoxical element that has you reaching for the repeat button for what I can assure you, will only be the first of many replays.
Flittering between the relaxing melody and an off-kilter vibe there is something so irresistible about ‘Relax’ that has you inhaling deep and belting along with them.
With top-class vocal quality, a knack for lyricism and a slick electric grit, the single is nothing short of saturated. From the hypnotic bass, impressive wavers of the electric guitar and hidden drive of the drumbeat, By George have pulled out all the stops for this one.
‘Relax’ tells the tale of a boy being dictated by a figure of authority who wants the best but ultimately doesn’t understand the boy well enough. The introspective argument within the boy’s head is spinning over if his frustrations are justified or if they are “all in his head.”
The band added: “Through this song, we wanted to document the feeling of being in a relationship where neither side is necessarily wrong, but motivations end up at odds with each other.
“You might want the best for each other, but oftentimes what you think is best for another person is not what they think is best for themself. Rather than make it a sombre musical experience though, we wanted to bring some upbeat and slightly aggressive (if you can even call it “aggressive”) energy to get people relating to that frustration better.”
For what may be a rather relatable concept, this single is not only a designated vibe but is also cathartic in a way that’s individual to each and every listener, taking on a new meaning with each play.
Nevertheless, it is the upbeat energy which truly takes it to another level, rather than wallowing in pity, the single pushes forward through the intriguing concept, making it a must-hear indie rock bop.
Having been in multiple projects since 2016, this single will be part of the band’s upcoming concept album ‘The Life Of Guy’, marking a new chapter of experimental indie exclusivity for By George, focused on the story of ‘Guy’ from life to death.
‘Relax’ is the perfect way for By George to kick off 2021 and we can’t wat to hear what they have in store for us next.
