Marion Fiedler “Can I Ride in your Backpack” Project

Marion Fielder

Marion Fielder

Marion Fiedler ist Musikerin / Sängerin aus Dresden, Ostdeutschland. Having discovered American Jazz whilst growing up on the other side of The Wall, she is now an accomplished composer and performer of music across the spectrum and the Atlantic, sharing her base between Nashville and Dresden. “I have 2 homes and I travel a lot”, Marion explains, “so my real home is the road and traveling my expression of life (as well as music and hanging out with my folks)”.

Blues, Jazz, and Pop are only some of the styles you will find across her Internet presence as her latest project, “Can I Ride In Your Backpack” will attest. The project has put “a few thousand” physical CDs into the hands of those who would take her music to the world by word of mouth. Listen to it, share it, pass it on. It’s very unique- anything innovative in the music business is sure to garner attention in the right places! But let’s go to the music that is freely available online to see what you can expect in your backpack if you become part of this project.

She released a full album “Rolling On” in 2018 which you will find on her Soundcloud page and on her website: The title is an uplifting pop-rocker with a catchy-Pachelbel chord-progression in the chorus; Dear Life follows in a similar vein but with a woodwind and backing-vocal accompaniment and a nice, skipping bass; Good Morning lifts the mood with a cheery clap-clap ditty, followed by the Cajun-Country Blues Summertime At Best.

Give It All sits here on the Soundcloud version of the record: this is a summery, jungle-styled number that includes a number of movements including a rocky middle-8 and an impassioned plea. It is also found further down in the list of extra tracks below the album.

It’s Not Impossible is the lady with her acoustic guitar, and Tell Me Baby, the first song not packaged in the Soundcloud version of the record but found further down in this treasure trove, is another pop ditty with the whole band and that skip-bass. A little more research finds that this is actually her first foray into uploading music onto the Internet, and a great little tune from which to measure her progress.

I Love The Way You Love Me, also hidden away like Tell Me, returns to the setting and mood of Dear Life; Can I Ride … blasts into your ears with a full big-band sound a là Michael Buble / Jamie Cullum with a Randy Newman-styled pianist! The biggest surprise package on the record is also my favourite track and probably why the project was named as such.

This Is Life (Dive Into Life) is the lady on piano, leading (like a quiet Missy Higgins) into the even quieter smoky bar-room closer The Call of the Nightingale. There is no pretence with this musician at any level. This is pure, unadulterated talent, with clean vocals utilising beautiful production values. You will enjoy this record! I really did!

And whilst there are 21 songs on Marion’s Soundcloud, her YouTube channel is where you will find her wings stretched out furthest! There are 49 different clips from all of her releases, as well as spur-of-the-moment jams that turned into songs worthy of recording, seasonal greetings, cover-songs and, of course, official videos for album and live favourites. Then there is her Google Panel which lists 25 tracks and more releases, including “My American Songbook” (2012); “All of my Life”, “When the Night Falls”, “This Is Life”, and “It’s Time” (2017); and “Tell me Baby” (2006); all of which are available across all the popular streaming and download sites.

If you get the opportunity, take up the offer and let her ride in your backpack for a little while! Be part of the push to make Marion Fiedler a household name (in English and auf Deutsch). She deserves nothing less! And it is hoped that my next article on diese wunderbare Musikerin will about her next album, “When I’m With You”!
