London based, grunge fuelled power-pop group Babyteeth released their debut EP ‘Knock Yourself Out’ on 4th December!
The EP takes its name from an on-set accident that occurred during the filming of their ‘Cut It’ music video, in which Samantha literally knocked herself out from head banging too hard. It is a representation of all the hurdles faced over the past year and how 2020 will not get the better of them!
‘Look Like Death’ gets the EP off to a rocking start with its electrifying riffs and bold vocals laced with attitude. If this song was an action it would be a sassy hair flick! This punchy sound continues in to ‘Worst Case Scenario’, sending ‘Knock Yourself Out’ off to a steady start. It is a great peep into the sound of Babyteeth without giving too much away early on!
The EP begins to slow down a little in the middle with ‘Lies’. Its darker undertones and pained vocals make it quite the opposite of the earlier tracks, but this is left behind when ‘Cut It’ comes crashing in with Babyteeth’s signature authoritative beats.
‘Knock Yourself Out’ comes to a close with a cover of Ariana Grande’s ‘God Is A Woman’. It is a surprising song for Babyteeth to cover however, they add a bold rock edge to it that completely transforms the song and makes it their own.
This EP represents the diversity of Babyteeth’s sound and their willingness to experiment. As far as debut releases go, ‘Knock Yourself Out’ offers a well-rounded insight in to what Babyteeth are about, and leaves the listeners curious as to what will follow.
