The Pretty Visitors. If you didn’t already know their name, their second single release has a strong chance of changing that.
The four-piece band, hailing from Brighton, are nothing short of indie rock gold. Kicking away from new wave music and jumping into the era where indie was created.
Their move onto the post-punk timeline, in turn, brings us their gritty, observational bop, ‘Head in the Sand’.
With a flair for detail, the single criticises the monotony and the constant rat race of life in a well and truly established ‘Park Life’ fashion.
The Pretty Visitors have delved into the world of Joy Division and Blur and lived to tell the tale.
Not many bands can claim that success, but the chanting, bleak reality of life, percussion and brilliant imagery is proof enough that this is a band to watch.
‘Slit your neck with a foundation pen for a £500 pay rise’.
It is colloquial in the best of ways, grinding those rusty wheels in your brain, so focused on work that you forget what you’re truly working for.
Be it reflected in the mono-ranged vocals or the rocking sense of an existential crisis, you just can’t say no to a drumbeat like that.
‘Head in the Sand’ is a bonified anthem for life right now. Filled with fuzzy guitars, buzzing with potential and then dampened by the reality of the lyrics.
It is a brilliant criticism, almost poetic, and an anthem I would definitely recommend reading the lyrics to – more than once as well.
