EP Review: Polymorph – Akitu

LA based rock band Polymorph are releasing their latest EP ‘Akitu’ on 4th December!

Founded and led by French brothers Nathan and Johann Lorber, Polymorph have an insanely diverse musical style that falls in the cracks of traditional music genres.

The EP begins with ‘Polymorph’, kicking things off with a captivating spoken word intro. It has an indie/psychedelic rock sound to it with some bluesy undertones, but it is quite a slow burner to start on and doesn’t instantly engage you. However, this feeling is turned around by ‘Uneven’ with its funky chords that really lift the pace of the EP, showing Polymorph are starting to get into their stride.

The following track, ‘Sunset Stroll’ builds on this further. It has a fun, carefree pop tone to it and lifts the overall vibe of ‘Akitu’ as it nears its end.

At an impressive 11 minutes long, ‘Akitu’ goes out with a bang with ‘Into The Deep’. It has a chilled acoustic start which slowly creeps into a bold rock track as the song evolves. ‘Akitu’ is an EP with many layers and effectively showcases Polymorph’s diverse sound, however there are points in the EP in which your focus wanders.
