Dizzying psychedelic riffs, dreamy melodies and addictive vocal hooks. The Mango Furs are a four-piece band that needs to be added to your playlists now.
With their latest single ‘Shoes Untied’ being released on Friday 13th November 2020 it is the perfect time to check out their effortlessly cool psychedelic agenda.
The four-piece group from Nashville offer themselves up to a hypnotic mix of indie, psychedelic rock, jazz and pop, blending the myriad of genres perfectly.
Carrying both Tame Impala and Declan Mckenna vibes it is nothing short of addictive, a dystopian stream of juxtaposition. The longing of the lyrics against the bliss of the melody is an atmospheric masterpiece to lose you head to – even if it is just for a couple of minutes.
‘Shoes United’ is decade and genre-defying. It is the 60’s and 70’s sugar-coated with a modern, vivid, indie-rock kind of psychedelia. The distorted echoey vocals, dreamy guitar hooks, and humming electricity all ebb and flow through the curious web of sound perfectly.
Chris Higdon (vocals, rhythm guitar, synth), Spencer Moore (Bass, backing vocals), Will Newman (Keys, synth, sax, backing vocals) and Dylan Miller (Drums, percussion) are masterfully addictive, bringing a sonic palate for the unique to the table whilst writing their own rules of sound.
The track exacerbates emotion, simultaneously becoming wholesome and melancholy. Chris Higdon added: “To me, “Shoes Untied” is a lysergic love song and there is something quite beautiful in how the blissful melody and chords are juxtaposed against the longing in the lyrics. I’ve always loved the romanticism in songs like George Harrison’s version of “If Not For You” and I wanted to touch more on the “fall” of falling in love and the viewpoint from that lens. We collaborated with video Director Caleb Herring who did a stellar job of capturing the nostalgia of the song in the video and I think it mirrors the tune quite well
