EP Review: in earnest – in earnest

Radiating through a spectrum of touching tracks, in earnest, have released their self-titled, debut ep, written to encourage conversation around topics such as mental illness.

Swimming through a lake of emotional sensibility, the alternative indie trio have created a mesmerising blend of sounds that really force you to take a step back, and breathe.

Listening to it is like floating. Drifting over every note, lyric and emotionally driven quiver. It emanates between equilibrium and disequilibrium. Grappling with the vastness of human emotion through breath-taking harmonies over a gentle, unfaltering backbeat.

This being said, there is a complete honesty throughout the EP that adds a weight and seriousness you cannot ignore. Through all the lo-fi, dynamic arrangements and nostalgia is a truth that is being encouraged to be spoken.

“We want listeners to connect, to feel something – our aim is to encourage discussion around difficult topics like mental illness. By sharing our experiences, we hope to provoke thought and inspire others to start conversations as a result of our music.”

The Southend-on-Sea trio do not disappoint. Sharing delicacy laced catharsis through an ocean of emotionally driven themes. In Ernest understand the importance of releasing that stream of consciousness and conversation, releasing our voices to talk and listen to others, ourselves and the music.
