Interview: Major Moment

Tell us something about “The Flood” no one knows?

Only a very few people from our inner circle know this fact, so we’ll share it. When we went to the studio in March to lay down vocals, and as you can imagine studio time gets booked way in advance, Sasha [Razumova, vocals / synths] was unfortunately battling a nasty cold (no, it wasn’t COVID, we checked) and had a sore throat – not the ideal conditions to record your first lead vocal ever. Normally, we’d probably try to reschedule this recording session for later, but we were days before the “stay at home” orders were placed around the country, and there was a lot of uncertainty in the air (still is, actually) about travel restrictions, mandatory business closures, etc. so we were concerned that not recording there and then would mean we potentially would have to postpone the song release for 6+ months until things settle down a bit. We were already running behind our schedule, so the decision was made to go for it and try to record in given conditions. Sasha fought through the takes, and it did sound good, so the song got released… But we knew it didn’t sound as good as it could, so we recently went back to the studio to re-record Sasha’s vocals on it from scratch, and fans will hear the newly recorded version in our upcoming music video for the first time. Will they spot the difference? We’ll see.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

We’d have to go with either Bring Me The Horizon or Mike Shinoda. Both have their collaboration games on point, and both are very inspiring to us. We’ll see what we can come up with, likely in 2021.

How has “The Flood” been received?

We’re very happy with our fans’ reaction to it, and would like to take this opportunity to once again thank them for their ongoing support! It’s our best performing song to date, our second song to hit 100K streams on Spotify. We also released the acoustic / reimagined version, and both will have music videos that are already shot & edited, and will get released in the upcoming weeks. We think they’re a perfect visual addition to the song, cannot wait to share them! Meanwhile, feel free to subscribe to our YouTube channel and click that bell button, so you get notified when the videos are out!

Can you tell us about the meaning behind “The Flood”?

We started writing it about a personal conflict with our ex band members: 4 people quit on us the same day without giving much of an explanation. Some didn’t want to invest their time, others didn’t want to invest in the band financially, everyone was saying they’re 100% in, but treating this band like a second hobby, so we felt lied to, disrespected and betrayed. As we kept writing lyrics, it turned into a song about bigger problems in the world than just our personal ones, same themes, just on a bigger scale. We’re tired of seeing injustice around us, tired of politicians lying and stealing from people, polluting our environment and our minds. “After us, the flood” is a translation of a French expression meaning “we don’t care what’s left after we’re gone”. We wanted to make people be more thoughtful about their daily interactions with others, about the mark they can leave on others’ lives and the planet, whether consciously or not.

What gigs do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

We do have 2 festival appearances still scheduled for 2021, and we’ll share some details as soon as we can. As far as regular gigs, we’re not in any rush to book any right now. Even before the pandemic our focus was on playing less gigs, but picking the right opportunities, and with the current worldwide health crisis, we’ll take our time to make sure it’s safe to come back to having shows again. Not looking to play any drive in / socially distant / awkward shows, we’ll keep our fans busy by releasing new songs, music videos, and maybe we’ll do a live stream, now that everyone is over the live stream fever we had during the summer, lol.

What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?

There’s a bunch of iconic venues all around the world that we’d love to play, most of them are a little bit out of reach for us at the moment, to say the least, so please give us some time to grow to the level needed, haha.

What else can we expect from you in 2020?

Oh boy… it’s been a hell of a year, but we’re going to finish it strong! Like mentioned above, at least two music videos are going to be released in the following days, and we have our brand new song called “No Fear” scheduled to be released on November 3rd. You can pre-save it here: https://orcd.co/nofear

We’re thrilled to announce that it’s our first song that will be released through Sony Music’s distribution company The Orchard, and we’re excited for this new step in our career. We also have some cool behind-the-scenes videos, so we’ll keep you entertained! And stay tuned for 2021, there’s no stopping for Major Moment!
