EP Review: Mayday Parade – Out of Here

America’s quintessential rock band, Mayday Parade have just started an earthquake of classic nostalgia with their latest EP ‘Out of Here’.

Rumbling through their impressive back catalogue of sound, the EP sticks to the similar themes of self-love and inner confidence seen in their last album, Sunnyland. Having been streamed over 62 million times, we certainly have high hopes and barrels of excitement for this next venture.

Mayday Parade doesn’t deviate from the blueprints, bringing us their ever-growing sound in vivid authenticity. Ever since ‘Sunnyland’, we have been in the eye of the storm and ‘Out of Here’ is about to suck us back into their world of thumping drums, clear cut guitars and classic Mayday Parade.

Gripping onto the expertly crafted emotional power, ‘Lighten Up Kid’ fills up your lungs instantly for the huge, pumping chorus. It is a fighting track, powering up your internal batteries to give you a never-ending faucet of strength. Jake Bundrick said:” ‘Lighten Up Kid’ is about trying to find yourself and the strength to keep fighting for what you believe in. It’s about being or feeling cut down and hung out to dry but standing up for yourself in the end.”

Similarly, ‘First Train’ seethes with the same high-energy electricity and chugging of bass. It should come as no surprise that Mayday Parade are killing it, having been successful for 15 years now. It is a claim many bands can only dream of achieving let alone lived it and still be bringing out amazing new music.

‘I Can Only Hope’ in no exception to this, mixing up the EP with an absolute screamer of a guitar solo you cannot afford to miss out on. From the slightly more mellow introduction to the track, the lid is lifted on the boiling pot of screaming riffs and effortless vocals. No matter what kind of genre you prefer, ‘I Can Only Hope’ needs to be heard, building emotion through big drop moments and guttural cracks and flares.

‘Out of Here’ is truly an EP to brighten up your lockdown and being some of that nostalgic, classic Mayday Parade sensibility to life. With special themed, ticketed live-streamed planned throughout autumn, get caught back up in a storm you won’t want to get out of!
