EP Review: Hands Like Houses – Hands Like Houses

Australian rockers Hands Like Houses are releasing their self-titled EP on 23rd October!

As a result of 12 wild years being in the band, they have experienced ARIA success, a triple j feature album, multiple sold out tours and have legions of global fans under their belt.

The EP opens with ‘The Water’. It’s an incredibly infectious opener with its catchy rhythms that leave you hungry for more. It sets the bar high for the rest of the EP, but that is a challenge that Hands Like Houses are more than up for! Its songs like this that leave you pining for live music even more than you are already…

This EP is full of songs that are guaranteed to get stuck in your head, they’re unbelievably catchy, anthemic tracks. ‘Dangerous’ is a bold pop rock song about reflecting on frustration and the loss of control you experience when your confidence falls apart. It’s a deep, reflective track masked with gritty rhythms that hide that underlying raw emotion.

Carrying on this high energy, pop-rock vibe is ‘Stranger’. Its thumping beat matched with the charming arrogance of the vocals make it the kind of song you want to play on repeat! It fits the vibe of the EP perfectly and is a smooth transition in to ‘Wired’.

You wouldn’t normally see rock songs described as ‘wholesome’ but for some reason, this seems like the only adequate way of describing ‘Wired’. It’s an oddly satisfying, feel-good song and the slightly gentler sound makes it the ideal way to ease out of the EP.

This EP shows Hands Like Houses’ undoubtable ability to keep making classic, fun rock songs but also their ability to take it back to basics and still make powerful music that people can connect to. Despite being in the game for so long, they haven’t lost their touch!
