EP Review: snake eyes – skeletons

Having already enjoyed support from the likes of BBC Radio 1 Rock Show and Kerrang! Radio, punk-grunge trio, Snake Eyes are battering their way through the music scene with their debut EP ‘Skeletons’.

Gutting through any debut nerves, Jim, Nicole and Thomas are cranking up the volume to bring us a noisenik of gritty and unshackled sound.

The rising South Coast trio kick down the doors and jump straight into the sweeping vocals of ‘Don’t Worry’.  Clashing through the frantic mix of drums and strummed chords this excellent mood-booster shatters through the album, clearing the way for the gritty grumble of ‘Listen’.

Laden with gnarly riffs and a distinctive intensity ‘Listen’, like the following title track ‘Skeletons’ screams with clear disregard for the previously candied sound.  The album flickers through an arsenal of adrenaline-inducing, DIY tracks that have you bopping your head along to in no time.

Grappling with the heavily grunged up dynamic the final track, ‘Bugged Out’ sears and burns through the album, packing a deadly punch. The melancholy vocals and slower tempo make for a screamer of a track perfect to finish on.

The whole album offers an awful lot considering where some tracks were made, the band said, “As cliché as it sounds, being our first release, I wanted ‘skeletons’ to really show the bare bones (no pun intended) of the band.

“We ended up making the record between my bedroom and Thomas’ attic as I wanted the EP to feel as DIY as the songs. It ended up being a pretty fun and personal process. It’s always great playing music but it’s even better when you get to do it with your best mates.”

The ‘Skeletons’ Ep kicks ass in every way, feeding into the excitement of playing with your best mates, it makes for a seriously hot debut EP.
