Album Review: Greg Puciato – Child Soldier: Creator Of God

Having worked with numerous bands like, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Killer Be Killed and The Black Queen, the multi-talented Greg Puciato released his versatile debut album, “Child Soldier: Creator Of God” three weeks early due to a leak.

Playing and performing everything but the drums, Puciato said “I don’t have a mission statement. I just do what feels exciting to me.”

From unhinged, aggressive ragers to more passive, pop-infused tracks, Greg certainly lets his work and talent take the reins.  The freeing mix of genres, tones, sounds and textures gives his debut album a refreshingly zesty flare, bound to make it stand out!

Puciato added, “This record is me declaring ultimate freedom. With The Black Queen, I wanted to do something completely opposite from The Dillinger Escape Plan and show everyone that I’m more than just one thing. Ultimately, I realized that I’m both of those things—and all of this other stuff, too.”

Child Soldier: Creator Of God” Takes his past musical influences to create a truly versatile album that slices through every element perfectly.

The industrial rager ‘Fire for Water’ focuses the spotlight on Puciato’s scabrous side, cracking the whip of intensity to fill every speaker. From guttural screams to the crushing chug of drums, the disjointed darker track is a heavy hitter that doesn’t falter for a beat.

‘Deep Set’ and ‘Do You Need Me to Remind You’ follow the same grinding noise of warped, mind-numbing rock which needs a warning label before being cranked up to the max.

‘Temporary Objects’ and ‘A Pair of Questions’ pour electronic pop into the versatile mix, keeping to a much slower tempo and introspective style. Shock absorbing the power of other featured tracks, the rubbery bass and unique change in style really makes Puciato stand out for his impressive musical flexibility.

‘Evacuation’ is a true 50/50, blend of both extremes on the album. With all pop, punk and rock tendencies present, the track flickers from jolting whispers, screams and laidback vocals, washing each element in waves of versatility.

So, buckle up and and give this diverse album a listen!
