snake eyes release new track ‘listen’

On the  verge of  releasing their  debut EP ‘skeletons’ this Friday, south coast “grit pop” trio snake eyes have revealed a final taster of  the  release  with ‘listen’“This was a riff I’d had knocking about for ages,” says guitarist and vocalist Jim Heffy. “In a previous band it got totally shut down for sounding too similar to “Kelly Clarkson” but I finally fixed it up when writing for this record. There’s a few different things going on lyrically… but it’s basically about a terrible house mate who would have BIG rows with his girlfriend nightly. Just had to make something of it as I’d been sat on the idea for so long and kinda had those QOTSA vibes. The good shit.”

Blending grunge and brit pop (hence the “grit pop” tag) with some punk rock and indie sensibilities making their way in there, snake eyes’ first collection of music is a fun and fervent ride. It was recorded between Jim’s bedroom and drummer Thomas Coe-Brooker’s attic, which has certainly resulted in a real and raw sound.

The band recently released the EP’s title track ‘skeletons’, which is a ridiculously catchy number, which along with previous singles ‘don’t worry’ and ‘wishbone’ has enjoyed support from the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show (who also premiered ‘skeletons’), Planet Rock Radio, BBC Music Introducing in the South and Alex Baker at Kerrang! Radio.

In the absence of your classic gig scenario and thirsting to play the tunes from their EP, having only managed to squeeze in one real life performance before lockdown kicked in, snake eyes recently played a “live” gig online with Crashface which you can watch back here.
