The cinematic pop sounds of Astraea are luscious on EP, ‘Tonight I Run’

Producer for the stars, Astraea now comes into her own as an independent artist in a cinematic pop explosion and songs detailing her self exploration, on EP ‘Tonight I Run’.

To fuse classical training with modern pop hooks and commercial appeal is no mean feat, but something which comes effortlessly to producer, songwriter and pianist Astraea. On the ‘Tonight I Run’ EP, Astraea flexes her muscles as an artist for what feels like the first time – expansive synths run and flow around intimate piano lines and an ethereal vocal.

Title track ‘Tonight I Run’ is a defiant song about overcoming the obstacles she faced in the music industry in order to get where she is today. An atmosphere of space and boundless ambition is created by the orchestral synths which then explode in the chorus to back up Astraea’s clear-as-a-bell vocals which soar above the music.

Homage is paid to fellow female writer and producer Kate Bush, who is the clear inspiration behind the giddy love song, ‘Nobody Loves Me Like You’ – a heartfelt message to Astraea’s family in a delicate staccato rainfall of arpeggios and a sky-high falsetto register.

This EP shows Astraea to be one of the most promising new names in pop, and following in the footsteps not only of those female artists who write and produce all of their own music (Kate Bush, Tori Amos) but those who made cinematic pop mainstream in recent years – AURORA, Halsey, Florence + the Machine.

‘Tonight I Run’ shines with Astraea’s fragile beauty, revealing a strength concealed time and again beneath the vulnerability she displays in confessional lyricism, and making for one of the most captivating releases of the year.
