Single Review: The New Coast – Silhouette Boy

Indie pop-power duo, The New Coast, are dropping their dreamy new single “Silhouette Boy”, this week on the 25th September 2020.

With a mammoth 6.5 million streams and airtime from Radio 1 and Radio X, the duo have smashed through the indie scene and are showing no signs of slowing.

‘Silhouette boy’ is a fizzing cocktail of cinematic quality and arena-worthy vocals, that live and breathe summer festival vibes.

The New Coast pour a catalogue of energy and emotion into the single, bringing it to life instantly with a giddy sugar rush of energy and crashing drums.

Skyrocketing through the relentless backbeat, it has all the power to get you off your seat and jumping around in no time.

From the radiating synths to the acute harmonies, the duo moulds every note, creating a single that is both atmospheric and cinematic, fizzing through the speakers in a buzz of electricity.

The New Coast commented on the single saying: “Silhouette Boy’ came about lyrically a while ago. It’s about this relationship I had and from start to finish it felt very toxic. Never knowing where my head was at and always wanting to fade away. ‘Tear Us Apart’ and ‘Cool Off’ acted as the opposing songs in ‘The Valentino Red’ EP and now ‘Silhouette Boy’ and the following single later this year are showing the more heart-wrenching side to it.

“It’s mad because this song originally started out as a slow, downbeat, acoustic track but Chris turned to me one day and was like ‘this sounds like it needs to have something heavier behind it… the words and subject are heavy and heart-breaking so let’s add to that’. Then came the big drums and hard bass sound and now it’s like ‘why was it ever an acoustic song?”

The single is another teaser for their upcoming 7-track EP, ‘Valentino Red’ and although it presents a slightly more melancholy side to the EP, there is no doubting the quality of the sound they have created and emotion that drips through.

Make sure you keep an ear out for their new single and the release of their upcoming EP!
