Single Review: Jools – How Can Some Experience What Pride Is Without Liberation For All?

UK based post punk band Jools (named after Jools Holland), released their latest single ‘How Can Some Experience What Pride Is Without Liberation For All?’ on 18th September!

Jools are known for proudly demonstrating their stance on socialism, public figures, and the importance of wellbeing, and this idea is definitely reiterated in HCSEWPIWLFA.

When discussing the song, singer Mitchell Gordon explained: “The song is certainly our most open and honest work. We headed to The Chairworks Studio at the beginning of June, filled with anger, distress and confusion after the brutal murder of George Floyd surfaced on social media.

“As six white men, we felt it was important to recognise our privilege and began to educate ourselves on subject matters surrounding racial injustice.”

HCSEWPIWLFA is a song with a purpose. The thrashing music and laid back vocals erupt in to a hard-hitting chorus – bringing home the message of the song. In some areas the vocals are quite reminiscent of Blur with their chatty, punchy rhythm.

This is their first single release since teaming up with UK management company Saviour Management, so many more exciting things are to be expected!

On working with the band, Saviour Management owner James Illsley said: “It’s great to have a band like Jools on our roster. They have a real raw energy and uniqueness that transcends many other bands within their scene.

“I have always been a huge fan of bands like Idles and The Fall, so it’s great to be working with a band that share similar sonical qualities”.
