Lockdown Interview: Dig Two Graves

When did you first realise that COVID-19 was going to have an effect on your band?

We got word from our management that a few shows were about to be cancelled, after that all of our plans were scrapped.

Initially, what was that whole situation like, and how did your band overcome/react to it?

The main concern was staying safe and figuring out stuff personally, but we really just decided to switch our focus from playing shows to writing and recording.

How has your creative process changed as a band over the last couple of months?

It’s always been pretty separate anyways. We don’t really write together in person, but pass around ideas electronically.

What’s been the hardest part about writing/doing music this way?

It’s been pretty much the same, but we’re unable to spread our music by playing shows which has been super difficult.

What bands/artists have you been listening to over the last couple of months?

A lot of Jiluka, 100 Gecs, Kero Kero Bonito, Nicole Dollanganger, and Story of Hope as always.

So, what do you think you’ve learnt the most from being a band through COVID-19?

Definitely gave us some perspective, I think when we’re back to playing shows, we’ll enjoy it that much more.

What kind of effect do you think that it’s had on the music industry all together, and how excited are you to see it return to normal?

I think it has been pretty rough, but I’ve also seen a lot of areas of revival and inspiration. It’s made people rethink how they do things and have to adapt.

What tips/advice would you like to give to other bands who are also going through this?

Not too sure, as we’re struggling through it ourselves. I think one thing is to not use the pandemic as an excuse against getting stuff done. Write, record, make cool stuff. We gotta do whatever we can I guess.
