Mortimer Jackson’s latest release is the deceptively delicate, punchy and oddly enchanting ‘Ghosts’. This swirling yet subtle cut transports the ears back to the nineties in an updated 2020 carriage as the arms in the air, wet shave chorus slices off any straggling Britpop emotions. The intelligent cliche avoiding (and poetic) lyrics are married with some slowly rising, spirit holding strings. The tip-top production matches the quality of the track and ‘Ghosts’ is a most welcome reminder that Mortimer Jackson is the (songwriting and performing) real deal and (sighs) yes, we’re still waiting for that f**king album.
