Alternative rock/pop band Fame On Fire released their debut album ‘Levels’ on the 4th September!
‘Levels’ is about going through the, motions of life and the typical ups and downs that all people can relate to. It’s a diverse, energetic, yet emotional mix of songs that demonstrates the constant evolution of their sound.
Introductory song ‘Cover Band’ is a heavily distorted rock opener infused with light hip hop elements. It is a bold way to open the album, and just in case you don’t already know – FAME ON FIRE ARE NOT A COVER BAND!
‘Her Eyes’ is an insanely heavy song, in more ways than one. The music is in your face and leaves no room for breath while the lyrics explore the turmoil of surviving an emotionally abusive relationship. To say its hard-hitting would be an understatement, and this idea of feeling low and struggling mentally carries on in to ‘Not Dead Yet’.
Despite Fame On Fire’s ability to smash big rock songs, the first half of ‘Levels’ is lacking slightly in variety. ‘HEADSPACE’ sounds very much like its predecessors with the exception of POORSTACY adding in a glimmer of emo rap. Its these kinds of little touches that would bring the album up a whole new level.
‘Crazy For Your Crazy’ really sees Fame On Fire come in to their element! It is a catchy pop rock banger with a super strong chorus. The authenticity of this track is what stands out the most, it feels like any front has been dropped and they are no longer pretending to be something they aren’t.
If you’re looking for a head-turner of a track, look no further! ‘Down’ is a slightly more stripped-back song and this is the first time we hear anything like this on the album – showing a whole new side to Fame On Fire. It really shows off Kuznitz’s vocals and demonstrates the range that the band are capable of before reverting back to their more familiar sound in ‘SOS’.
Concluding the album is ‘Scars Of Love’. This song finishes the album with a twist and is potentially the most stand-out track on ‘Levels’. It is an acoustic song that’s absolutely packed with emotion and I couldn’t think of a better way to end such a high energy album.
