Released 4 September 2020
Elm Tree Circle present for your edification and entertainment, “No Fomo”, the newest addition to a discography that includes “The Gardener” (single May 2014); “Drawn” (EP March 2016), and “Claustrophobic Christmas” (single December 2017). Promoted as being for fans of PUP, Tiny Moving Parts, Modern Baseball, their press would have you slot them in the Indie Punk / Pop Punk / Skater Punk genres.
Hailing from Iserlohn in the Dortmund area of far-Western Germany, this is nothing like the music from Germany that I am used to! Whilst I am more familiar with pop or industrial rock of Falco and Rammstein, the beautifully segged, beautifully produced “No Fomo” is Butch Vig-styled Smashing Pumpkins / Billy Corgan throughout, with dashes of Green Day and/or Blink 182 and/or The Offspring: very safe, very radio-friendly, language-warning free 90s/00s-styled punk with 10 tracks that the label would find difficulty choosing a single or lead track from.
Tracking back through their previous SoundCloud or BandCamp recordings shows how much they have grown in bringing this record to where it is; with their influences so proudly displayed through tilts at Good Riddance and RATM. “No Fomo” is smoother, cleaner, and more grown-up, but also true to their roots.
I can’t hype these guys enough- Elm Tree Circle are that good! Check them out- you’ll be glad you did!
