EP Review: Thousand Below – Let Go Of Your Love

Post hardcore slam-down band (as described by their hometown paper The San Diego Reader) Thousand Below released their ‘Let Go Of Your Love’ EP on 21st August!

The EP features stripped down versions of songs from their 2019 album ‘Gone In Your Wake’, as well as brand new title track ‘Let Go Of Your Love’.
As an opening track, ‘Let Go Of Your Love’ really sets the bar high for the rest of the EP. The lyrics discuss the need to move on from someone who was once the most important person in your life, adding that extra layer of poignancy. It is an achingly heartfelt song with smooth vocals and a light guitar, making it a fabulous insight in to the softer side of Thousand Below.
‘Chemical (feat. Sumner Peterson)’ is an insanely stripped back version of the original, making it almost unrecognisable! It is a fantastic track in its own right and is unlike the majority of Thousand Below’s existing material, giving it an alternative edge.

This sound is carried on in to ‘Alone (out of my head)’ which veers towards a typical pop punk sounding acoustic track. It has slight Grayscale/The Story So Far elements to it but it is a striking song nonetheless. Thousand Below’s ability to completely transform these tracks is incredible and hasn’t sacrificed the power and meaning of the songs in the slightest.

The EP is rounded up with ‘Lost Between’. It is a beautiful way to end ‘Let Go Of Your Love’ with its silky vocals and calming instruments. Despite this being a solely acoustic EP, the level of variety among the tracks is remarkable and it accentuates the breath-taking vocals and moving instrumentation that Thousand Below are capable of!
