Chicago punk trio, The Lawrence Arms are soon to be releasing their first album in six years ‘Skeleton Coast’.
The supercharged, gritty album will be released on Friday 17th July 2020 bringing 14 tracks of uncensored power and unbridled energy to the delighted ears of many fans!
The highly anticipated album powers through harsh, achy melodies with a perfectly rough edge that sears through every punk power anthem.
The deviating, ‘Quiet storms’ rolls onto the album in a slow drawl of lyrics and delicate accompaniment.
Although, as fans will know, this doesn’t last long as within seconds the familiar kicking of drums comes crashing through the speakers in all its glory.
‘Quiet Storms’ is by far not the only track that is dedicated to its hugely catchy melody line, as all 14 tracks on the album grow into their own memorably eclectic sound.
The rougher, rockier edge punches through in ‘Planes Trains and Automobiles’ smashing together the heavy gritty growl of the vocals, guitar, bass and smattering of drums.
‘Skeleton Coast’ has a smorgasbord of grunts and growls and is completely unapologetic, roaring through the heavier tracks without batting an eye.
‘Goblin Fox Hunt’, ‘How to Rot’ and ‘Belly of the Whale’ similarly, grumble on through the crashing drums and the familiar coarse purr of the bass.
‘Last Last Words’ and ‘Lose Control’ see a much clearer, cleaner punk sound being brought into the album, however this doesn’t take away from the power or raw energy of the grittier tracks in the album.
The punkier tracks are freshly calibrated and execute each gnarly note and lyric in perfect punk glory.
One thing you do realise after listening however is that you just can’t stop your foot and head from tapping and bobbing along to the powerful rhythm and melody of the tracks.
