KILL LINCOLN

‘CAN’T COMPLAIN’

(Bad Time Records)

8/10

Washington D.C Ska-Punks Kill Lincoln latest full-length offering is the utterly infectious ‘Can’t Complain’. Opener and album intro ‘Greetings From Inner Space’ swirls like a dusty circle pit as brass, guitars and clear cut yet strained vocals punch the genre’s formulaic clock. The MTV pogo continues on the speedy ‘Used Up’ which has that incurable slowing down of the chorus before reversing back into the throttle down verses. The Less Than Jake similarities feel organic rather than copied and there’s nothing wrong with that when it sounds this fresh. ‘Last Ditch Denial’ aurally jabs ears with it’s “Woohoo’s” and a 2-Tone on Red Bull horn section. Pacey Punk reigns on the quickfire ‘Ignorance Is Bliss’ before ‘Who Am I This Time’ kicks off with a knee-bending bassline and the cut evokes images of sunshine, skateboards, mohawks and vans worn with white tube socks.

The American Ska-Punk movement has undoubtedly kept British 2-Tone in the public consciousness especially throughout the genre’s fallow nineties and Kill Lincoln have perfected the art of stamping the Star and Stripes over black ‘N’ white checkerboard. The duo of  ‘Confession Obsession’ and ‘Well Spent; Wasted’ bounce down the same underpass before soon to be live favourite ‘Civil Surgery’ gets you skanking around the kitchen. The age-old issue of how to improve, switch or just freshen up the Ska-Punk sound isn’t answered here but the eleven tracks are all stellar Warped tour anthems. The final pairing of the bizarrely titled ‘Womb Envy’ and the stunning title track ‘Can’t Complain’ complete this damn fine release of tip-top premier league Ska-Punk.

‘Can’t Complain’ is released on August 7th on Bad Time Records.
