Album Review: Awake State – The Great Divide

Smell The Coffee!

Out of the dumbfuckery that engulfs us, like a phoenix from the ashes, rise Awake State a band of brothers who, unafraid of the distance, have bonded over land and sea, over space and time to create this appropriate  and pertinent piece to add momentum to the fight for equality and justice . I don’t need to repeat it all, you know the score, the question is what do we do? The answer is here my friends, in this song, and many others like it, that are testament to the shameful disclosure that we have not left our pasts behind. These fine, upstanding chaps are the same dream team behind the recent single, Covaid 2020 and with my good friend (I’m allowed to say that aren’t I?) PW of Copperworm at the helm, well when all else fails, the huskiness prevails!

A proper old school groove to shimmy and shake to with an exotic mix of Rap/Rock you find yourself delirious in the decrepitude, and that have mercy ‘ get on our side or get out of the way’ well you heard them. At 2.40 is the riff that elegantly ties it all together, quite neat and nifty really. The chanthemic finale is expressive and mildly aggressive, as it’s all hands-on deck to eradicate hatred and hostility from our world. It is a tune for our times folks so up and at ‘em! A vigorous attempt at reconciliation, a chance to re-invent and be reborn,  propagation for our global nation was always on the cards, but it seems like we never even scratched the surface.

As before, details can be found at awakestate.bandcamp.com so please scoot on over and offer your support. In the words of Judas Priest, one of the forefathers of metal I’ll leave you with these words.

‘United, united, united we stand, united we never shall fall. United, united, united we stand, united we stand one and all.
