Damien, Put The Dog Down Damien.
Yes, my friends, who remembers this iconic horror film? A personal favourite of mine whose scenes and music has been etched in my mind forever causing long-lasting fragility and insanity. My brothers in metal, Scarred By Truth have released an EP called ‘Blind My Eyes’ and it was cunningly released on 6th June at 6am, how considerate of them to add to our already infested and infected lives. Before I even start, I’ve got that dialogue from The Omen, the ending in the first film ‘daddy, don’t do it daddy’ racing through my skull. I’m not getting out of here alive, am I ?
Under starters orders we have the title track and immediately I get Pete Murphy (sigh….swoon…faint…) in the vocal department, but it is not long before the doom descends and plunges us into a blackness, sharing the void with ‘things I shouldn’t hide’. We get a little friskier, riskier even, and friendlier at 1.08 as we head into the chorus and then prepare to be ‘Scarred’ by the juggernaut that has lost control and is on its way to you. don’t bother running, there’s no time. The evisceration continues with riveting frets and percussion to pique your cranial matter into submission, the sheer jollification of the riff at 1.40 which sits hand in hand with the death growl ‘I am scarred’ finish, it’s enough to make a grown man cry.
‘The Plight’ – reviewed here https://originalrock.net/2020/04/29/single-review-scarred-by-truth-the-plight/
is also included on this mini maelstrom.
Cue ‘Carmina Burana’ folks it’s your hotline to Hell and the number is ‘666’ so dial up for a substantial power ballad that weighs down on your chest, smothering your breathing apparatus. The title itself is goddamn scary, symbolic of the nefarious trinity, conjuring up all sorts of terror. Excuse me while I hide under the duvet, don’t tell anyone where I am.
A seismic chunk of British steel glints in the sunlight, we are told ‘The End Is Nigh’ as we remember the words of Exodus ‘let’s have some fucking violence’ because my friends we won’t take this crap lying down. Adopt the Thrash position please for a blister ripping ending.
666, it’s the number of the beast, go on give him a call.
