LA songwriter and producer, Betty Moon has just released her latest EP ‘Translucent’ alongside her new single ‘Dead out of Love’.
Packed with rock, soul, punk and electric influences, the six-track ‘Translucent’ EP moulds Moon’s past, present – and possible future musical influences, into one.
Through the EP’s versatility, one thing that remains the same is her effortless vocal ability to slide between tracks with untameable swagger and assertion.
Tracks such as ‘Your Dirty Love’ fashion this swagger and assertion into a more seductive tone heightened by the deep thrum of the bass and slower tempo.
Various influences and tones are pieced together throughout the EP, from the punk rock centred ‘Don’t Stop Now’ to the more electronic/ pop-based ‘Did it for Nothing’ and ‘The Liar’.
With many of Moon’s previous pieces having been featured in film’s and shows, the tension and drama that fills these two tracks especially is no surprise. Her vocals drip over the heavy electronic beat to create two really empowering tracks.
Contrasting these is the mellow, soothing beats of ‘All He Is’. It’s a soft, soulful piece which flows straight out the speakers to fill the space you’re in. The fluidity, slower tempo and vocal echo’s lull you gently into a much calmer, and more relaxed mood within seconds.
The EP’s ability to influence mood and emotion is outstanding thanks to Moon’s musical prowess and ability to match and support different genres through her range of vocal techniques.
Guided by her iconic, larger than life persona, ‘Translucent’ captures Betty Moon’s natural, power, swagger and sensuality in a range of colour and sounds.
This appreciation and understanding of many musical styles and genres is impressive and allows the EP to become much more personal.
