Album Review: Hank Von Hell – Dead

Infamous, larger than life Norwegian Hank Von Hell is releasing his latest album, ‘Dead’ on 15th June! He is known for his large, swaggering sound but this album reflects a much darker side…

Introductory track ‘Ad Conteram Incantatores’ comes creeping in, setting the album off to a chilling start with the words “You can’t kill me, I’m already dead!”. Title track ‘Dead’ veers away from the darker tone, definitely not something you expect to follow the opening song. A solid, catchy beat dominates the rock track but has slight pop and metal flares making the occasional appearance as it does later in the album with ‘Am I Wrong’. This kind of vibe carries on in to metal banger ‘Danger Danger!’ with its searing guitar leading the track, a sound that later reappears in ‘Velvet Hell’.

Further on in the album is ‘Disco’, a groovy pop rock song laced with disco elements. This is followed up with ‘Crown’ featuring Swedish rock singer Guernica Mancini. This tracks big choruses and punchy beats make it a classic rock song.

As far as old school rock goes, ‘Radio Show’ is the perfect embodiment. It’s an energetic track with slamming choruses, representing the raucous rock that Hank Von Hell is known for. This is an album full of throwback sounds, 80s glam is present throughout – particularly in tracks like ‘Forever Animal’.

’13 In 1’ has a striking intro with sleazy rock vibes before finishing the album on ‘Requiem For An Emperor’. The spooky spoken word intro branches in to the darker side of the album and revisits the sound of the opening track. This album is an old school masterpiece!
