Nashville based sister duo, Larkin Poe, are releasing their huge new album ‘Self Made Man’ on the 12th July 2020.
Megan and Rebecca Lovell swagger through the album, donning the gritty influences of country, rock and blues, allowing their talent, confidence and attitude not to walk, but to strut.
Thick riffs, power chords and southern swagger form the bedrock of the album giving the sisters a base to showcase their talent and amplify their artistic power.
Kicking off the album is the unapologetic, ‘She’s a Self-Made Man’. From the first beat of the kick drum and twang of the guitar, you know the album isn’t void of attitude. The vocals drawl and drip with power and rhythmic ease, giving the track true authenticity.
‘She’s A Self-Made Man’ is all about empowerment, accepting yourself and not backing down. The lyrics, paired with the same melody as the electric guitar and the backing, push the raw, gritty power that blossoms from the first breath on the track.
Following this is ‘Holy Ghost Fire’ continuing the same level of infectious calibration. Using the kick drum and call and response, it is difficult not to join in. There is a deep electric intensity that purrs from behind the melody, firmly rooted in the track but only just kept at bay.
Larkin Poe certainly know how to use their country swagger and twang to bring their tracks to life. ‘Tears of Blue and Gold’ and ‘Danger Angel’ amplify that southern influence with counter riffing guitars, acute harmonies and gliding vocals.
‘Back Down South’, featuring Tyler Bryant, is similar in the ways which the country/rock influence is used and has you immediately synchronising your steps to the tempo of the track. Without even realising, your singing and dancing along with the steady thud of the drum.
Larkin Poe has an arsenal of untameable confidence and strength at their hands and makes full use of this in every track. From the purr of the guitar, the fluidity of the vocals and guitar slides.
Listening to the album has you feeling a little taller, stronger and brighter. You can’t help but embrace the infectiously badass swagger and attitude
The album will be released on the 12th June 2020!
