Fast-rising Glaswegian mob The Roly Mo have unleashed trippy new visuals for their latest single, Diamond Doll, out now via 7 West Music. Taken from their upcoming debut EP, Diamond Doll is the band’s first music video – watch here.
The unlikely love song is brought to life in technicolour psychedelics, oozing with a glam rock charisma reimagined by the young punks for a new age. Kicking off with commanding percussion and punctuated by hazy wailing guitars, Diamond Doll is an alluring swagger-filled rock and roll marvel, offering an intoxicating and colourful peek into an illustrious saviour tale of escapism, as told by The Roly Mo.
Shining some light on the otherwise shrouded story, Joe Morton explains “Diamond Doll is one of our favourites from the upcoming EP and it brings a different vibe to any of our previous releases. PLAY IT LOUD”, he continues “I wrote it because of an experience one of my friends had in the past and the idea just became so much bigger in my head. But it’s basically about a troubled stripper that goes over the top for some clients for cash because life has dealt her such a bad hand, not that she wants to, but she’s got no other way to make it.”
Forming in 2018, The Roly Mo have quickly risen to the top of the Glasgow crop, dropping explosive singles ‘Fooled By You’, ‘If You Play Nice’ and ‘Cuttin’ About’ while holding their own in impressive support slots to Glasgow stalwarts The Dunts, Baby Strange, Rascalton, Gallus in Edinburgh, Dunfermline as well as their hometown.. Their 2019 single ‘I’ll Be Happy When You Die’ saw BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders pick the track as ‘Next Wave’ and garnered praise from BBC Radio 1’s Daniel P Carter, BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway and Radio X’s John Kennedy. They have also appeared at festivals such as Tenement Trail, Stag and Dagger and EH6.
The Roly Mo are Joe Morton (vocals, guitar), Jack Livingstone (guitar), Andrew Moble (bass) and Lewis Jamoui (drums).
Diamond Doll was produced by Chris Marshall (Gerry Cinnamon, The Dunts) and Johnny Madden (of Baby Strange). It was recorded and mixed at 7 West Studios by Chris Marshall, and mastered by Tom Woodhead.
