Single Review: Scarred By Truth – The Plight

The Plight By Night

‘So cold like the eyes of the ones who refuse to see’

My friends, we writhe in an eternal nightmare; authorities couldn’t give a stuff, social injustice is rife, inequality and hatred are in charge. As part of the  ‘Moshin’ The Roof On’ campaign to help those who call the streets their home  is this dimly lit alley way view of our world. Scarred By Truth are the band and ‘The Plight’ is the skull-crushing, maniacal mouthpiece for the homeless. An enterprising formula has been adopted as the central idea here with the thrashing beast from the North East comprising Corvus – vocals/guitar and Cremave – bass/guitars and then various like-minded citizens dipping their toes in, as and when in a shared purpose of cultural and societal needs. Enter the domain of those who are the unwanted, with vivid imagery and horrific statistics, SBT understand what is at stake here and want to do something about it. They crawl up your spine and pick at the hairs on the nape of your neck, with their fuck heavy frets, booming bass lines and then at 1.24 you jump up and down to the catchy yet heart-wrenching chorus, quite a gothic/industrial feel too, something out of the Killing Joke handbook. This is the sound of the pit. Jordan Giles of Swarms UK is the featured artist in this emotionally driven piece which tackles such a fraught but important issue. A journey that started in 2019, there is no shortage of material for these musicians to take inspiration from. It is the tragic state of our society.

They say we are all a pay day away from being out on the streets. Lest we forget.

Scarred By Truth – The Plight out now via self-release.
