Through the ages, people have used music as a means to speak about the world around them, the 70’s saw the emergence of a raw raucous punk scene. Chaos and frenzy are the staple of the scene, underpinning the social conscience that ride the wave of mayhem, when we’re talking real punk, if you can chill out to it, it’s not punk!
Yorkshire four piece, Smiling Assassin are here with a mission and their manifesto is releasing on the 31st of May. Plight Of The Millennial is the debut album from this upstart crew, bleeding the punk ethos from every pore, the bands aim is to bring a new generation into the fold with their modern take on a genre that changed the world.
George Garnett (Vocal) explains this goal,
“With this album we’re trying to put a breath of fresh air into the modern punk scene and shed light on the real issues and difficulties our generation face today…”.
Casey Stead (Bass) continues:
“Plight Of The Millennial is a call-to-arms for a disenchanted, disillusioned, and frustrated generation. It delivers bursts of angst and cynical social commentary in a climate where people are more than happy to reduce serious issues to the realm of memes, or witty banter, for the sake of a cheap laugh. As modern hardcore seems to be becoming more insular, POTM subverts the trend. Listening to this record is like seeing the world through the eyes of a rebellious youth, and concluding: ‘shit’s just worse than ever’.“.
You can pre-order Plight Of The Millennial digitally at the Smiling Assassin Bandcamp and a physical copy at their official store.

Coping was the first official single from Smiling Assassin, since its release in early April it has received a huge amount of interest. Not interested in waiting to see what happens, these guys are grabbing the world by the balls and clearing their own path. Coping is a not just a great track but a statement that this band has a message to tell, and tell it they will.
On ‘Coping’, drummer, Robbie tells us:
“The song for me is about not what the worlds idea of mental health is but what mental health actually looks like. Different people cope in different ways, our coping mechanism is our music, it’s a way to feel, forget, connect, accomplish. That’s what this song is about, Coping.“
Coping is available from all great streaming and retail outlets right now, check it out at:
Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon & Bandcamp
