Album Review: Milk Teeth – Milk Teeth

It’s been a tricky couple of years for the Gloucester based punk outfit. Since their last album, the only surviving original member is lead singer and bassist Becky Blomfield. One might think that with all of these changes in line-ups that this would have an adverse effect on the band…think again. Milk Teeth are back with their self-titled new album and they mean business.

Each of the 11 tracks is a great slice of pop punk and listening through the album in full, there isn’t a single song that you would look to skip. The sound feels like it comes straight from the 90’s with “Destroyer” showing a very clear Nirvana influence. “Transparent” midway through the record is buoyant with its energy as is “Sharks” which follows. The later of which shows no signs that the band are now only a trio as the sound that comes from Foster’s guitar feels like there are several fighting to break free.

Both “Medicine” and “Smoke” takes things down a little bit in comparison, yet there is no dip in quality. One of the great things about this album is the ordering of these tracks, as the album flows from start to end in such a brisk time without it ever feeling like it is dragging at all. Despite all of the problems and setbacks that they’ve had, it’s a testament as to how strong this record is. It’s raw, unapologetic and at the same time feels absolutely full of life.
