Yesterday, YUNGBLUD live-streamed a concert in Los Angeles to fans worldwide via his YouTube – watch back here. The hour-long gig took place at 2pm GMT this afternoon, and was watched by over 41,000 fans, with #TheYUNGBLUDShow trending at #2 in the UK and at #1 worldwide! The show is already at 200K views.
The “Shit’s Weird Keep Calm and Carry On” concert featured YUNGBLUD performing a set list of songs with his full band, and included guests Machine Gun Kelly, Bella Thorne and Oliver Tree taking part in activities and games between songs.Machine Gun Kelly also performed with YUNGBLUD for their track ‘I Think I’m OKAY’.
The songs were performed as though in front of a physical live audience, YUNGBLUD encouraging audience participation – singing, dancing and moshing – to the fans who had tuned in from their bedrooms. The YUNGBLUD Show also included a live Q+A, where the artist answered questions sent in by viewers via social media.
The idea of a live-streamed show was in response to the postponement of YUNGBLUD shows across 10 countries, due to precautions being taken to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). After spending the past two months in the studio working on his new album, YUNGBLUD was disappointed that he’d be unable to connect with fans on tour this Spring, and so saw the live-streamed gig as a way to give back to fans who have been impacted and to help foster a sense of community.
YUNGBLUD said, “the world is in a very weird time at the moment. everyone doesn’t know what to do or where to turn. it’s like we are all trapped in a glass or perspex box whilst someone is playing a trick on us. my shows were getting cancelled left right and centre. i miss the energy, i miss the connection, i miss my fans and family. we need each other more than ever right now and having the opportunity to interact with them taken away from me fully wasn’t even an option for me! we’re holding an online concert monday 7am pdt earliest show of my life see you there!!!”
