Paris-based multi-instrumentalist, producer and artistic polymath Yehan Jehan has announced details of his new EP ‘Earth Arrangements Vol.2’, and released new single ‘Witch Hunt’, listen here. The companion EP to 2019’s ‘Earth Arrangements Vol.1’, the new EP will be released April 9 on Aphrodite, a new label from Alexander Waldron, co-founder of the Greco-Roman label that launched acts like Joe Goddard, Tirzah and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. The lyrics to the shimmering, elegant ‘Witch Hunt’ are “about how everyone’s attacked for free speech these days and so no one really says anything,” comments Yehan. As befits a man who can play just about anything, there’s an obtuse reference to one of his favourite instruments:“There’s a witch hunt baby, don’t be afraid to speak your mind. They ask who’s a sympathizer, but are we synthesizers too?”Also available now from the EP is previous single ‘Invisible Friends’, which flies on a classic guitar-funk groove and features vocals from Yehan’s sister Zadi, who also stars with him in the brilliantly bizarre and stylish video. Channelling the suburban weirdness of films like Donnie Darko and Napoleon Dynamite, the video was produced and directed by Yehan Jehan together with Camille Luciani. Released last November, ‘Earth Arrangements Vol 1’ contained the singles ‘Treat Us Bad’ (“…reminiscent of Jungle in their early years,” aonetwothreefour.com), ‘Haze’ (“Tears For Fears influenced synthetic phantasia,” Clash), and ‘Don’t Forget About Me’ (“…pulsing and sweeping Anderson .Paak-inspired groove” Mystic Sons).“Vol. 2 continues from the same lineage and theme exploration as its predecessor,” says Yehan Jehan of the second EP. “The title embodies the idea of the sociological tectonic plates of the planet. We’ve been aware of its natural state and history for aeons, yet our own environment is highly unpredictable and continuously challenging.”Currently residing in Paris, Yehan was born in North London after his parents moved from Bosnia in the early 90s. His father is a composer, his mother a piano teacher, so messing around with music came naturally. He was composing music by the age of 12, while at the same time writing scripts, making films and animations. These interests have continued into adulthood – Yehan designs his own artwork and directs his videos, as well as producing and playing everything on the two EPs himself. Yehan Jehan gives a tour of his Paris studio and talks about his creative process in this interview on Music Radar. |
