As the threat of the coronavirus (COVID-19) reaches pandemic proportions, the importance of safeguarding yourself from potential exposure has become tantamount in people’s everyday lives. One of the easiest and most efficient preventions is the simple act of washing your hands – or as Los Angeles Times reports, “scrub with soap and water for 20 seconds — or about the time it takes to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ twice.”
Legendary singer/songwriter GLORIA GAYNOR has come up with an alternative. One song close at hand that is already an anthem for survivors of all kinds is her 1979 hit, “I Will Survive.”
Already a massive hashtag on social media outlet TikTok with #iwillsurvivechallenge enjoying millions of fan vids lip-synching to her worldwide smash, Gloria has decided to use her platform to help spread the health-conscious initiative by filming her own TikTok vid using that popular hashtag.

“For the past 41 years, I have watched and listened to how ‘I Will Survive’ has given hope, encouragement and inspiration to my fans around the globe.
It is my hope and desire that this song will continue to bless and
heal you during these trying times.” – Gloria Gaynor
As a global music legend who tours the world each year, Gloria is very concerned about the spread of the disease and is doing her part to educate the public on awareness and prevention.
Already, the challenge has been accepted and fans have joined in and posted their own videos, showing how Gloria has inspired them to take the necessary steps to prevent the spread of the virus. Click on the individual images below to see the fan challenge videos.
Coincidentally, yesterday marked the anniversary of “I Will Survive” topping the charts at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
