Delanila release new single ‘The Philospher’

Alternative pop group DELANILA, fronted by the London-born multi-award winning composer and multimedia artist Danielle Eva Schwob, today release their powerful new single and accompanying video ‘The Philosopher’. Listen HERE / Watch HERE

‘The Philosopher’ is the second single to be taken from DELANILA’s upcoming debut album Overloaded out 3rd April on Danielle’s own label ZYG ZYG Records, and co-produced by three-time GRAMMY-winning producer David Bottrill (Muse, Tool, Peter Gabriel). The album was recorded in London (Abbey Road Studios & Tileyard) and New York.

‘The Philosopher’, with its definitive alternative rock undercurrent and electro-pop arrangements create an intense sonic experience, as Schwob’s vocals soar through an encapsulated chaos. Heartbreak, tinged with a lighthearted optimism, weave through the lyrics ”When it all comes crashing down/What goes around is gonna come around.”

“The Philosopher is a blistering explosion of Internet-induced jealousy, inspired by the toxic underbelly of social media. I wrote it from the perspective of a troll, convinced of their own superiority and envious of the online successes of someone they consider undeserving. Its title is ironic. Because everyone on the Internet has an opinion and everyone is a philosopher,” Schwob comments on the track.

The accompanying video features Schwob layered with cracked visual effects evocative of the perils of the digital age and its all-consuming nature, in keeping with the themes of her forthcoming album.

With a highly successful background as a composer, arranger and guitarist, DELANILA sees bandleader Schwob stepping away from composing and score arrangements, and moving into a new musical world of her own. A versatile collaborator, she has worked in various capacities with artists including Golden Globe winner Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ben Folds, Philip Glass, The Pogues and David Simon (creator of The Wire), as well as on Darren Aronofsky’s mother!, Shakespeare in the Park, Sir. David Attenborough’s Emmy-nominated Conquest of the Skies, James Schamus’ Indignation, Manhattan Night starring Adrien Brody and Chioke Nassor’s How To Follow Strangers starring Ilana Glazer (Broad City) Awards and honors from New Music USA, the Aaron Copland Fund, the American Composers Forum, BMI, ASCAP, and others line her résumé.
