THE CITY KIDS ARE UNITED

The short-lived (and much missed) blistering career of The Main Grains is possibly responsible for The Wildhearts original line up reforming and then recording 2019’s album of the year, the unsurpassable ‘Rennasaince Men’. The Main Grains initiated (former Wildhearts) bassist Danny McCormack’s musical rebirth after a decade spent in an addiction fuelled wilderness. The upshot was a Main Grains album which led to a support slot with Ginger, Cj and Ritch which led to Danny taking to the stage to perform a trio of songs with his former bandmates. Wounds were patched up, friendships rekindled and ten years of pain was replaced with the possibility of a bold and brighter Wildhearts future. The Main Grains inevitably split as Danny devoted more and more time to the relaunched Hearts. The three remaining Grains splintered with the upshot being Ben and Gina forming the Rock-infectious Spangles. JJ Watt hooked up with guitarist Dennis Post (Warrior Soul) bassist Berty Burton (Tigertailz) with the drumming duties to be taken on by Dave Sanders (Falling Red) to complete the lineup, of the so new they’re gleaming THE CITY KIDS. The bands opening offering is the Boombastic single ‘Best Of You’. The cut resonates like 70’s Punk and 90’s Rock cracking skulls in the New Wave disco at the bottom of MTV street. The sneering riff slices the ears before the untipped rasping and gasping vocals creep up on you like a Tyson Fury kidney punch. The band’s up and coming debut album has been mastered by the headmaster himself Dave Draper aka VoltaDave. The other tracks on this impressive debut release include the diesel punch of ‘Round And (A) Round’ and a couple of demos. For the Main Grains devotees, ‘You Get Nothing’ is given a much-deserved second revolution. The City Kids have wheel spun around the late-night Rock ‘N’ Roll car park to signal their smoking arrival.

The single is out now and all funds raised will go to a charity in memory of Falling Red bassist  Mikkey Lawless who passed away in early January 2020 after a nine-month battle with cancer.
