cheerbleederz Reveal Jono Ganz-Animated Video For New Single ‘disco’

London indie punk trio cheerbleederz are pleased to reveal a video for their new single ‘disco’, alongside a handful of select UK live appearances, including a performance at Wales Goes Pop in April 2020.

“We’ve had a great reception playing all of the new songs live and are excited to release them and let them breathe out in the world,” enthuse the band on hitting the road again.

The single is once more accompanied by a beautiful animated video from long-time collaborator Jono Ganz, who created the wonderful video for ‘staying up late’ from the band’s 2018 debut EP faceplant.

The single is the second to be taken from their forthcoming second EP lobotany, which is set for a 7th February 2020 release on Alcopop! Records, and available to preorder now from: https://cheerbleederz.bandcamp.com/

Commenting on the new single, the band say: disco is essentially about feeling like you don’t belong or fit in and the fall backs used to cope with this. It’s the feeling of ‘but if I’m doing everything right, why am I still so lonely?’. The important thing to remember in all of this of course is that our differences make us lovable <3 Instead of giving up, you make your own space. Playing in bands, we’ve often felt sidelined in music throughout our lives and careers, so we make cheerbleederz a space to celebrate our quirks and differences and support each other. Jono Ganz has made us another beautiful animation as an accompanying video for this song, with a plant character going through just this very situation!”

The new EP was once again recorded and produced by Rich Mandell, who also plays guitar and sings alongside drummer Phoebe in Happy Accidents, and mastered by Ryan Schwabe (Hop Along, Kississippi, Cayetana and more).

“We had even more fun experimenting with production and songwriting this time around,” say the band on their new material. “Both the single and EP have themes of beginning new friendships—both platonic and romantic—as well as reflections on self esteem, vulnerability and sticking up for yourself. Recording with Rich again was key to getting the most relaxed and authentic performances of the songs and he’s done an amazing job capturing the energy of them.”

With early live appearances at Manchester Punk Festival and Switzerland’s inhumano Fest, alongside tours with contemporaries The Winter Passing, flirting. and ME REX already notched up, the band drew early praise from the likes of CLASH, BBC Introducing, God Is In The TV Zine, Loud Women, Already Heard, For The Rabbits, Austin Town Hall, and a host of underground blogs and zines.

Already boasting a fine pedigree of lo-fi underground hits between their individual members’ various bands, with their new project the trio have hit upon an instantly infectious brand of no-frills, melody-driven punk. Taking influence from the likes of The Breeders, Snail Mail, Dream Wife, Alvvays, Charly Bliss and Kississipi, their songs touch thoughtfully on the lived experiences of women and marginalised people.

Previously-released lead single ‘say 2 u’ is also out now.

lobotany is released 7th February 2020 on Alcopop! Records
