Petrol Girls Release Music Video for ‘Monstrous’ as UK Tour begins

PETROL GIRLS’ headline tour of the UK kicks off tonight in Newport and the band have shared a glimpse into their life on the road with a new music video for their single ‘Monstrous’. Filmed by Martyna Wisniewska (@gingerdope) over tours with Refused and Thrice and La Dispute, the clip is an intimate portrait of Petrol Girls on tour, both on stage and off. It resonates with the theme of the track, as vocalist Ren Aldridge says that ‘Monstrous’ “is about feeling mined and drained and too much and not enough and, ultimately, monstrous. It’s also about how I sometimes feel on stage or on social media. Sometimes I find fronting a feminist band too much pressure from too many different directions.”

As well as this month’s headline tour of the UK and Ireland, Petrol Girls will be headlining mainland Europe in February and they’re getting set to visit North America for the first time, where they’ll be playing SXSW and New Colossus, followed by some headline dates. Further details below. Widely hailed as a visceral, thought-provoking and cathartic experience, Petrol Girls’ live show is not to be missed.

Featuring on Best Of 2019 lists at NPR, Kerrang!, Visions Magazine (DE) and Upset and garnering praise across the board upon release, Petrol Girls’ recent album ‘Cut & Stitch’ is a patchwork of different sounds, ideas and feelings. With an overall feminist approach, the band addressed a variety of topics across ‘Cut & Stitch’, from the environment to mental health. As vocalist Ren Aldridge explains, “Cutting and stitching is a process that can go on indefinitely – stitches are easily unpicked, new shapes can be cut, everything can be rearranged. We cut our patches off of old clothes and sew them onto something else. Continuity is an idea that underpins the record, from ‘the sound does not arrive’ to ‘we’re not finished, we never fucking will be.’”
